This is a lovely, light-hearted traditional Irish tune originally composed for the harp by Ireland’s most famous harper, Turlough O’Carolan (1670-1738).

The original name is lost in history however this happy melody is almost univerally known now as “Carolan’s Welcome” after it was played by The Chieftains to welcome Pope John Paul II on his visit to Ireland in 1979.

This tune is very popular in Ireland and would be a great choice to have something authentically Celtic in your wedding.  It would be something different to welcome the bride as you walk down the aisle, or to joyfully proclaim you man and wife as you leave.

Carolan’s Welcome plays for just over three and a half minutes.

Note: Original music by Turlough O’Carolan and arranged for harp by Aisling Ennis
