This is a very old Irish tune, traditionally associated with the legendary Brian Boru, who was high king of Ireland over a thousand years ago.  This regal, yet upbeat and simple tune is still very popular in Ireland and is traditionally played on the harp.

We have recorded this march at two speeds because we couldn’t decide which we prefer!  The slower recording would be ideal for a steady processional march.  However the faster, lively version would be a fantastic recessional.  Or why not use both in different places?  The price listed includes both recordings.

Brian Boru’s March comes in two recordings to suit your ceremony:

  • One version is slower, more sedate and ideal for a reflection during the ceremony.  This version plays for about two minutes.
  • The other version is more lively and perfect for a Celtic arrival or exit piece.

A little bit about Brian Boru:

Brian Boru lived from 941 to 1014 and Ireland at this time was ruled by over 150 petty kings, most paying tribute to an over-king, called a higher king.  Brian Boru is considered as the most successful Irish king of all time by managing to gain and hold control as high king of over the entire island of Ireland – something that hasn’t been done as successfully before or since by any Irish person.  Unfortunately when he died at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, his sons were unable to hold the kingdom together and Ireland has never been united and independent since then.
