Amazing Grace is a classic hymn that really needs no introduction.

Written in the late 1700s by ex-slaver John Newton, Amazing Grace has a beautiful, simple song that has stood the test of time.  As a very inclusive hymn, this song is ideally suited to any denomination of church wedding or to if you want to add a Christian touch to a non-religious ceremony.

However, at it’s core, Amazing Grace is a song about a rescuing Love so powerful that it has “saved a wretch like me”.  This is a Love that is a rescuing love and all-powerful, all consuming and never-ending.  So I can’t help but think that this beautiful melody is suitable for religious and non-religious wedding ceremonies alike.

Amazing Grace comes in two lengths to suit your ceremony:

  • The shorter version lasts a minute and a half and is ideal for a short moment of reflection or to accompany a very short ceremony, such as lighting a candle.
  • The longer version plays for less than 3 three minutes.  This version is ideal for when a longer piece of music is needed.

Below are the lyrics usually sung for this song.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise,
Than when we first begun
